Burger Purist I Am
Finally! Sweet vindication! As you may or may not know, or may or may not care, I have never (and ain't gonna) tasted ketchup, mayonnaise or mustard. For whatever reason, I have been condiment free since birth. As you might imagine, I have been the recipient of much scorn for this personal peculiarity. Well, while watching the Food Network this evening I learned that the great american hamburger was invented in New Haven Connecticut at a restaurant called Louis Lunch. In 1900 Louis Lassen came up with the hamburger patty. Mr. Lassen perfected the hamburger and later revealed it at the St. Louis World's Fair.
This is a quote from the documentary on the Food Network:
"Each one is made from beef ground fresh each day, broiled vertically in the original cast iron grill and served between two slices of toast. Cheese, tomato and onion are the only acceptable garnish -- no true connoisseur would consider corrupting the classic taste with mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup. "
I always knew I was right and the rest of the world was wrong!
