Desiring God National Conference
Home from the Desiring God National Conference in Minneapolis, I am tired but encouraged. Tremendously more academic and provocative than other conferences I have attended, this gathering of leaders, thinkers and theologians was of great use for me as a Pastor of a young and developing church. In a time where there is an ever increasing number of 'how to' books, conferences and conversations about church and reaching the postmoderns, the theme of DGNC was "The Supremacy of Christ in the Postmodern World". Each speaker shared with passion and conviction the need for churches to uphold a high view of God, exalt the person of Jesus Christ and hold to Scripture with uncompromising devotion- all while reaching the postmoderns of our time. This affirmed everything we are finding true at The Point Community Church.
The Point is growing, some say rapidly, I don't yet know how to gauge the growth - I just know that we are seeing increasing numbers weekly of growing significance. We are holding strong to our belief that God has promised to build His church, we are to simply be faithful in being the church. Our commitment is to the foundational truth of God's Word, beliving that as we lift God up He will draw people to Him.
I was able to speak with leaders from the Acts 29 Network of churches. As I have written about previously, our church is in the process of becoming part of this network of young churches that are committed to the authority of God's Word and to the vitality of being relevant without compromising.
There were plenty of Southern Baptist leaders and Pastors there as well. I am greatly encouraged by young and unfluential men in the SBC who are committed to planting churches with a high view of God and a commitment to Scripture as our sole source of authority in the church.
In the coming days, the complete conference audio and video will be available at Desiring God. I strongly encourage you to listen to the messages from each speaker. Mark Driscoll, John Piper, Tim Keller, D.A. Carson, and David Wells were all so edifying of the church and exalting of the Savior.
A personal blessing of the weekend was spending time with some of The Point's elders and our drummer. In the next couple of days I will be posting my notes from the conference, most of which I entered into my Treo so it will take some time to decipher my entries.
Challies has a great live posting from the conference.

Also, Hershael York has a post today that is particularly relevant. It has nothing to do with the conference, but it is a reminder of what the purpose of the Gospel truly is, the redemption of man and the forgiveness of sin.
